This initiative, by IOK Afvalbeheer, Mooimakers, and the Herentals city council, encourages young people to tackle litter and work towards a clean, sustainable environment. Those who successfully implement the action plan will receive a reward of €225 to €900 at the end of the school year.
Operation Proper runs until June 2027. Participating schools and youth groups develop their own feasible action plan, which includes activities such as regularly cleaning up litter on and around their premises, organizing lessons or activities about waste, and making greater use of reusable materials. In addition to some fixed challenges, there is also room for their own initiatives.
Participants track their actions via an online platform and report with photos or short summaries. IOK Afvalbeheer monitors the implementation. The final reward depends on the number and nature of the successfully executed actions.
Operation Proper attracts many participants each year. Last school year, nearly 190 Kempense schools and youth groups participated, collectively receiving a record amount of €127,550 in rewards.
Registration for the 2026-2027 school year is open until October 31, 2026, via mooimakers.be.
