The exhibition, showcasing the work of Sylvie Algoet and other laureates, runs until November 20 at the ceremonial entrance of the city hall. Algoet also secured second place in the public vote for the amateur category.
The international photography competition ArtCheval brought together photographers from various countries around the theme ‘Connection in the world of horses and equestrian sports’. A professional jury selected twenty photos, including Silent Support by Sylvie Algoet. She is the only Belgian to have earned a spot in the international selection.
Both amateur and professional photographers could submit their work. The selected images are exhibited in Saumur, France, and Waregem. After the jury's selection, the public also had a vote via social media for their favorite photo. Thus, alongside the jury's selection, a public prize was awarded for both amateurs and professional photographers.
Among the amateurs, the prizes went to Élodie Taraud with Entre ombre et lumière, Sylvie Algoet with Silent Support, and Victoire Dion with Les âmes se reconnaissent. For the professionals, the winners were Julie Stamenic (Entre nous), Valérie Gascoin (Puissance et Grâce), and David de Rueda (Cœur de nuit).
The photo exhibition is free to visit from October 20 to November 20 at the ceremonial entrance of the city hall of Waregem. Waregem's participation is no coincidence; along with cities like Saumur, it is part of Euro Equus, a European network of cities with a special connection to horses and equestrian sports.
