The incident involves a supplier of digital signing software used for documents such as letters and deeds. Oostkamp is not the only affected municipality. As soon as the incident was detected, the supplier took the platform offline and implemented measures to prevent further access and limit the impact.
The municipality has immediately initiated the necessary information security procedures and reported the incident to the competent authorities. The situation is being closely monitored in collaboration with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the IT department.
The local administration urges residents, partners, and staff to be extra attentive to suspicious emails, links, or attachments. Be cautious with unexpected SMS messages, phone calls, and payment requests, especially when contacted unexpectedly about a certificate or deed you have requested from Oostkamp. Do not click on links within received messages.
As protective measures, the following best practices are emphasized: never click on links in unexpected messages without verification, never share personal data, passwords, or codes. Carefully check unexpected payment requests and, if in doubt, do not pay; contact the organization through a different channel to verify the request. Messages in eBox should always be accessed directly via the official My eBox environment or the Mijn Oostkamp App.
The municipality is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further communication as more information becomes available.
