From October 1st, the city of Oostende is introducing a new waste policy. Door-to-door collections will now take place during the day, new yellow residual waste bags will be available for purchase, and the GFT+ collection using dedicated bins will commence. The distribution of these GFT+ bins is currently in full swing.
Due to a technical issue, however, not all residents of Oostende will receive a GFT+ bin by October 1st. The city is making every effort to deliver the bins as quickly as possible. For those who have not yet received a GFT+ bin, the GFT+ collection will only start later.
From October 1st, vegetable, fruit, and garden waste, as well as leftovers from cooked food, can be collected in the GFT+ bin. This bin can be placed outside weekly on the collection day. The bin and the weekly collection are free of charge. Every resident of Oostende will receive a GFT+ bin at home.
The distribution of the bins is currently underway in all districts. If you have already received your GFT+ bin, you can start sorting your waste and placing it outside on the designated collection day from October 1st. Those who have not yet received the bin can continue to use the residual waste bag until delivery is completed.
The composting pavilions located at Spoorwegstraat, Guldensporenlaan, and at the corner of Sluisvlietstraat and Schietbaanstraat will remain open longer to support the distribution of the bins. The collection of organic waste in the city center will also continue for the time being.
In the districts of Stene, Konterdam, Mariakerke-Bad, and Centrum, the delivery of GFT+ bins may experience delays. In the Vuurtorenwijk, most of the district will receive a GFT+ bin on time, but it is possible that this may not yet be the case in a number of streets.
Apartments with 10 or more dwellings will receive a communal GFT+ container. These are also experiencing delays, but should be delivered by the end of October. The city will contact the managing agents for this purpose.
