The city of Leuven is organizing an information market in De Bruul park on Sunday, October 4th, 2026, from 1 PM to 4 PM, to mark World Animal Day. Visitors can meet various animal welfare organizations and have their pets' microchip data checked for accuracy. Participating organizations include Animal Rescue Service, Zwerfkat in Leuven, and Dierenasiel Tienen.
Information on animal welfare, volunteering, and responsible pet ownership will be provided. The Leuven police zone will also be present to explain the animal welfare reporting point and the 'plusbaasjes' project. Alderman for animal welfare, Christophe Stockman, highlighted the day's importance in spotlighting pets and supporting owners.
Pet owners can bring their dogs or cats for a free check of their microchip details. Mandatory chipping and registration in the Dog ID or Cat ID databases apply to dogs and cats. Stockman noted that many owners fail to update their contact information after moving, hindering the reunion of lost pets. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with checking and updating these details.
Visitors can also collect free pet cards, stickers, and poop bag dispensers. The city aims to raise awareness for a clean public space and the importance of cleaning up after dogs.
The information market will be held in De Bruul park and is free to attend. No registration is required.
