The KMI has issued a code orange for wind at the coast from Friday, October 23, 2026, at 1 PM until Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 2 AM. The city of Nieuwpoort is therefore taking the necessary precautionary measures and will temporarily close several locations.

The following locations will be temporarily closed:

  • both jetties

  • the Astridpark

  • the Leopold II park, including the dog meadow

  • the Prins Mauritspark, including the dog meadow

  • the Sportpad between Canadalaan and Cardijnlaan

  • the Koolhofput

The swimming pool remains accessible via Stationslaan.
These locations and activities will also be affected:

  • Children's farm: closed from Friday, October 23, at 12 PM

  • Westfront Nieuwpoort: the panorama will not be accessible from Friday, October 23, at 12 PM.

  • Youth Movement Day: the activity will move from Hendrik Geeraertplein to the Stadshalle.

The city urges residents to prevent damage and be cautious. With a few simple measures, one can help limit storm damage:

  • Secure loose garden furniture and other garden items safely.

  • Roll in your sunshade and store your umbrella.

  • Remove leaves from accessible drains.

  • If possible, park your car at a safe distance from trees.
