Lendelede is actively focusing on prevention, accessible support, and safe public spaces as part of the new ‘Flemish Action Plan to Combat Gender-Based Violence 2025–2029’, approved by the Flemish Government. Gender-based violence is a harsh reality; according to figures from the Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities (VVSG), 64% of Flemings aged 16 to 69 have experienced sexual violence at some point.
The action plan broadens the focus from the previous plan, which primarily addressed sexual violence, to include five forms of violence: sexual violence and sexually transgressive behavior, intrafamilial violence, honor-related violence, female genital mutilation, and online abuse such as deepfakes, sextortion, grooming, and digital control.
With 115 concrete actions, the plan provides local authorities with additional leverage to tackle violence, emphasizing children as full victims, safe public spaces, and local support services.
For help and support, victims, witnesses, and concerned loved ones can contact Hulplijn 1712 for questions about violence, abuse, and child abuse (free and anonymous). The Zorgcentrum na Seksueel Geweld (ZSG) offers medical and psychological care and the option to file a complaint after sexual abuse. In emergencies, individuals can call 101 or 112.
The Institute for the Equality of Women and Men promotes gender equality and provides a reporting point for transgressive behavior. Child Focus combats the sexual exploitation of minors online and offline. The Flemish Reporting Point for Transgressive Behavior listens to stories and seeks solutions. Stop it Now! is for perpetrators of sexually transgressive behavior and their loved ones, offering anonymous and confidential help regarding sexual feelings and behavior towards minors.
