The province of West Flanders and the municipality of Ledegem are planning the construction of a new controlled flood zone (GOG) in Sint-Eloois-Winkel, with works scheduled to begin in 2028.

The water overflow experienced in late 2023 highlighted that the existing buffer capacity of the two basins in Sint-Eloois-Winkel is insufficient. In response, the province of West Flanders and the municipality of Ledegem have acquired land for the creation of an additional controlled flood zone (GOG).
A preliminary design has been completed, and the dossier is currently being prepared to apply for an environmental permit. If the project proceeds as planned, construction can commence in 2028.
