Pink Ribbon vzw, the national organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer, is calling for increased attention to awareness, prevention, early detection, psychosocial support, and research during October, International Breast Cancer Month.
As part of the annual Pink Illumination campaign, well-known buildings and monuments worldwide are lit up in pink. Knokke-Heist is participating: since September 30, the Scharpoord cultural center and the town hall have been lit pink for one week. Through this symbolic lighting, the municipal government aims to draw attention to breast cancer and show support for everyone affected by the disease, as well as their families and friends.
Pink Ribbon emphasizes the crucial role of knowledge and timely action in the fight against breast cancer. The organization promotes a healthy lifestyle, sufficient exercise, recognizing potential warning signs early, and participating in breast cancer screening. The earlier breast cancer is detected, the greater the chance of effective treatment and a positive outcome.
Furthermore, Pink Ribbon strives to make the disease more discussable and to support individuals facing breast cancer, both during and after diagnosis and treatment. The organization also funds projects focused on psychosocial support, quality of life, and scientific research.
The pink illumination of Scharpoord and the town hall is more than just a striking color accent; it's an invitation to pause and reflect on breast cancer, to start conversations, and to focus on prevention and early detection. Simultaneously, Knokke-Heist demonstrates its support for everyone who has been or is currently confronted with breast cancer.
