The municipality of Leopoldsburg is discontinuing the current OverKop initiative and is working behind the scenes on a new, youth-oriented program within Kwartier IJzer, set to launch gradually from 2027.

The current OverKop initiative in Leopoldsburg is being phased out. In collaboration with stakeholders, a review was conducted on how to best support young people in the municipality in the future. The decision was made not to continue the current operation but to integrate the accumulated experience and expertise into a new initiative within Kwartier IJzer.
To ensure young people are not left unsupported during this transition, the municipality of Leopoldsburg and the youth service will organize one Wednesday and one Friday activity per month. These sessions will continue to focus on meeting, relaxation, and providing a listening ear.
Concurrently, behind the scenes, efforts are underway to develop a new program tailored to the needs of young people. Within Kwartier IJzer, youth work and support services will be integrated to mutually reinforce each other. The ambition is to gradually launch this new initiative starting from 2027.
This temporary arrangement is therefore not an endpoint, but a transition towards a new approach that better aligns with the needs of young people in Leopoldsburg. More information regarding the activities and the further development of the initiative will be released soon.
