From October 26 to 30, the municipality of Ternat is drawing extra attention to young carers, young people who take on care responsibilities at home, and urges them to register.

Many children and young people take on extra responsibilities at home, such as caring for a sick family member, a sibling with a disability, a grandparent with dementia, or another family member who is struggling mentally. They adapt their free time to the care situation at home and often consider this normal, without seeing themselves as (young) carers.
The Week of the Young Carer, from October 26 to 30, is being used by various organizations to highlight this often invisible commitment. The aim is to better see, recognize, and support young carers.
Residents of Ternat who identify as (young) carers are urged to register via www.ternat.be/mantelzorgternat. Through this call, the municipality aims to map the profile and number of carers in Ternat, in order to develop more targeted information and specific actions.
More general information about young carers can be found at www.jongemantelzorgers.be.
