The problematic condition of the Casino building's facade in Blankenberge has led to urgent safety measures. A stability assessment completed last year revealed that the facade is deteriorating faster than expected, increasing the risk of falling facade elements. The safety of residents and visitors is paramount, prompting the city council to expedite necessary interventions.
To ensure the area's safety during the autumn and winter months, debris netting will be installed on facade sections bordering public areas, including the side facade facing Casinoplein, the rear facade on Casinostraat, and the side facade towards Charlierhelling. Tiles on the support pillars of the arcade on Casinostraat will be shielded with wooden panels, and a protective canopy will be erected at the entrance on the Zeedijk side.
The works are scheduled to commence on Friday, October 2nd, and are expected to be completed by mid-October. The estimated cost for these temporary measures is €165,000.00, with an additional 15 percent contingency for unforeseen circumstances. Access to the building, including the exhibition space, cultural center, and gaming rooms, will remain guaranteed.
In addition to safety measures, the local government is working on a structural solution. The development of a new casino and the King Beachsite is a priority. In the coming months, the city will investigate desired functions and facilities for this site, aiming to develop a new, future-proof casino plan by the end of the current legislative period.
