After earning his Master of Medicine degree with great distinction from KU Leuven in June 2026, Dr. Mertens has chosen to further specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He will gain experience as a junior assistant, deepening his clinical knowledge and skills within a specialized team.
Dr. Mertens is a member of VEJOS-Belgie (Association for Young Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Belgium). His passion for sports medicine will be further pursued this academic year 2026-2027 with the Sports Medicine program at UGent.
Dr. Mertens' patient-centered approach, focusing on functionality and quality of life, aligns perfectly with the values upheld by AZ Jan Portaels.
