Construction work on the new Markthal in Overijse has officially commenced following the kick-off meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The initial phase involves utility works and site preparation.

The awarded contractor, Algemene Bouwondernemingen Everaert-Cooreman, will first install a site cabin for electricity and dig new trenches for utility lines. The planned start date for this is November 16th. Demolition works will begin in early 2027.
After years of planning and preparation, the new, future-oriented building is moving a step closer. The Markthal will be a modern and sustainable meeting center for all ages, providing space for various purposes: workshops for the GITO, classrooms for the primary school, a spacious multipurpose hall for events and associations, and a youth center.
In the coming weeks, the schedule will be further refined in consultation with all partners, addressing aspects such as mobility, school operations, and safety. Updates will be provided through various channels.
