The service is being launched in collaboration with vzw Mobiel, an organization with over 30 years of experience in transport organization and volunteer work. From a single central point, trips for both municipalities will be coordinated. Requests are received by vzw Mobiel, which then matches them with volunteer drivers who carry out the trips. By pooling knowledge, volunteers, and resources, the partners aim to strengthen volunteer transport and keep more people mobile.
Residents will pay an annual membership fee and a mileage reimbursement per kilometer driven. The volunteer drivers contribute not only to mobility but also to social cohesion, as they know their community and the people who live there. This local connection is a major asset of Mobitwin.
The new Mobitwin Central originated within the LEADER project 'Mobility on Demand: Local Initiatives for Accessible Transport'. This project investigated the transport needs of people with limited mobility in the Hageland region and sought feasible solutions. The joint Mobitwin operation is a concrete outcome of this process.
