The redesign of the Stationsstraat-Provinciesteenweg in Haacht, between Haacht station and the roundabout with Zoellaan, aims to make the regional road safer for cyclists and pedestrians, improve bus traffic flow, and renew utility lines and sewers. It will include a separate bidirectional cycle path, a dedicated bus lane towards the station, and a separate sewage system.
The works will commence with preparatory groundworks starting on November 9th, lasting 2 to 3 weeks. In early December 2026, utility works will follow, involving the renewal and relocation of gas, water, electricity, and telecom lines. The actual road and sewer works for the redesign of the road surface will begin in the summer of 2027, after the festival season.
The project includes the construction of a separate bidirectional cycle path with a safety strip and footpaths on both sides. Near the Leibeek, a gateway effect will mark the speed transition from 70 to 50 km/h, along with a turning point for cars and an eco-duct for small animals to safely cross under the Provinciesteenweg. The bus lane will also end here.
The preparatory groundworks will take place along the meadows between the station and the roundabout with Zoellaan, and near the nature reserve at the Leibeek. The work zone will alternate sides and shift approximately 200 meters at a time. The regional road will remain open to traffic in both directions via narrowed lanes. Cyclists can follow their usual route through a temporary 200-meter cycle zone.
The utility works, carried out by various companies under the Synductis umbrella, will run from December 2026 to June 2027. They will be executed in three phases: from the roundabout with Zoellaan towards Haacht station, in the station vicinity, and connecting new utility lines on the residential side. Residents will receive more information beforehand.
From the summer of 2027, the main road and sewer works will begin, gradually shaping the new layout of Stationsstraat-Provinciesteenweg. Infrabel will also carry out works near the railway crossing during the summer/autumn of 2027.
Wegen & Verkeer will organize an information session for local residents in May or June 2027. Updates on the works will be available via the digital newsletter and the project page of the Agentschap Wegen & Verkeer.
