The City of Ghent is modifying traffic measures in Drongen-Baarle and plans the comprehensive renovation of four streets to improve traffic safety and the living environment.

Following the introduction of a traffic filter in Baarleveldestraat and a tractor lock in Moerstraat in 2024, measurements and feedback from residents indicate that adjustments are necessary. More traffic was observed, particularly in Varendrieswijk, while concerns about heavy traffic persist in Noordhout.
The traffic filter in Baarleveldestraat will be partially opened for motorized traffic from the E40 and N466 towards Landegem. A ban for heavy goods vehicles will remain in place. Traffic from Landegem towards the E40, N466, or the Booibos business park will continue to be impossible.
The temporary tractor lock in Moerstraat will be retained due to its positive impact on traffic safety in Noordhout. This temporary setup will be replaced by a robust, permanent concrete structure.
In addition to these traffic adjustments, the City of Ghent plans the integral renovation of Raapstraat, Lage Varenweg, Varendriesstraat, and a section of Sint-Gerolfstraat. These interventions aim to create safer routes, reduce through traffic in residential areas, and enhance the living environment for residents.
During an information session in October 2026, residents were able to view and discuss the initial concepts. A link to the project page for these renovations will be available soon.
