At the Langerbrugsestraat junction in Evergem, R4WO is simultaneously realizing a bicycle tunnel and a new access complex. The bicycle tunnel is nearing completion, while construction of the complex is now starting.

At the Langerbrugsestraat junction, R4WO is undertaking two major projects simultaneously: a bicycle tunnel under the Langerbrugsestraat and a new access and exit complex. The bicycle tunnel is in its finishing stages. Construction of the access and exit complex is now commencing.
Thanks to a smart adjustment in the work sequence, the contractor can complete the bicycle tunnel and simultaneously start building the new access and exit complex. Originally, this temporary traffic arrangement was planned for early 2027, but due to this 'less hassle' solution, it can now be implemented from October 25. Consequently, the works will be completed a few weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
For cyclists, the crossing point over the R4 remains in the same location. However, the traffic lights will be adjusted: from now on, the push button must be pressed to request a green light. The crossing will then be conflict-free, without crossing motorized traffic.
For motorized traffic on the R4, little will change. Only the lanes heading towards Zelzate will shift towards the railway viaduct. It will remain possible to drive in both directions using 2 lanes.
R4WO is temporarily arranging the intersection between the R4 and the Langerbrugsestraat as a large oval roundabout, with 2 turning loops at the ends of the work zone. This allows access to destinations from every direction.
From Zelzate, one can directly enter the Langerbrugsestraat towards Evergem. To go to Langerbrugge, one must drive past the junction and take the turning loop back towards Zelzate, after which one turns into Langerbrugsestraat towards Langerbrugge.
