The renovation of Bosstraat in Wellen, an investment of over 10 million euros, is a key priority for the municipal council. Following extensive preparation, the tender for selecting a contractor has been published. Due to the project's scale, it involves a European tender process. The contract is expected to be awarded by the end of this year.
Once the contractor is selected, information meetings will be organized for local residents. The municipality acknowledges the significant impact of the works and aims to provide timely and clear information regarding phases, timing, and accessibility. Practical questions and concerns from residents will be considered where possible.
The Bosstraat will undergo a complete redesign, including a separated sewerage system, cycle paths on both sides, a fully renewed roadway, traffic calming measures, and the renewal and undergrounding of utility services with new LED street lighting. Adjacent streets will also be upgraded with new sewerage and road surfaces.
The works will be carried out in several phases. After site preparation, utility companies will renew and relocate their lines. These works, divided into 3 phases, will start at the border with Alken and are scheduled to begin around mid-April 2027. The contractor will then commence with the installation of sewerage, cycle paths, and roadways, divided into 8 phases. The total execution period is estimated to be around 3 years.
Land acquisitions are nearing completion. The municipality expresses gratitude to the involved property owners for their cooperation. Arrangements are being made with heirs or new owners in cases where original owners have passed away or moved. Existing sales agreements are being converted into notarial deeds, a process managed by Vastgoedtransacties, which will incur administrative costs requiring additional budget.
The municipality understands that a project of this magnitude requires patience and that the works may present challenges for residents. Emphasis is placed on timely and clear communication, particularly concerning access to homes and businesses. Thanks are extended to all involved owners and residents for their patience, understanding, and cooperation towards a safer Bosstraat and a more pleasant living environment.
