The Noordlaan in Genk will begin a new phase of works from November 4, expected to last until spring 2027, aiming to create safer and more comfortable cycle and footpaths.

The works involve breaking up the existing cycle paths and verges, renewing utility lines by the utility companies, and then the contractor will lay new cycle and footpaths, bus stops, and driveways.
To carry out the works safely, one carriageway of the Noordlaan will be closed as a work zone. The other carriageway will temporarily have one-way traffic towards Zonhoven, with a maximum speed of 30 km/h.
Car traffic towards C-mine will follow a detour via Boxbergstraat, Landwaartslaan, Hasseltweg, and Tennislaan. Cyclists heading towards Zonhoven can continue to use the Noordlaan, while cyclists heading towards C-mine will follow a detour via Dwarsstraat and Groenstraat.
Public transport will also experience disruption. The bus stops 'Winterslag Erabelstraat' and 'Winterslag Spoorwegstraat' will temporarily not be served. Replacement stops will be provided at the roundabouts of Boxbergstraat and Tennislaan. Bus line 3 will also follow an adjusted route. Passengers are advised to consult De Lijn's route planner for up-to-date information.
According to the current schedule, the works will last until spring 2027. Commuters are asked to expect traffic disruption and follow the on-site signage. More information about the schedule and diversions can be found at genk.be/noordlaan-zonhoverweg.
