Governor Jos Lantmeeters welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of the Einstein Telescope. Hans Plets, CEO of Einstein Telescope Flanders, and Michel Stassart, Walloon representative for the project, provided an explanation. The diplomats also visited the interactive ECHO exhibition, which showcases the technological and economic opportunities of the Einstein Telescope.
Governor Lantmeeters stated: “The Einstein Telescope is a unique opportunity to put our region on the international map. The project brings together scientists, companies, and governments from various countries. With this visit, we show that Limburg and the Meuse-Rhine Euregion have what it takes to play a significant role in this international scientific project.”
In addition to the Einstein Telescope, Corda Campus was also on the agenda. CEO Raf Degens led the diplomats on a tour, explaining Limburg's strengths for investment and innovation. For POM Limburg, the visit is an opportunity to further profile the region internationally as an attractive place to invest, do business, and innovate.
Tom Vandeput, Deputy for Economy and chairman of POM Limburg, added: “Limburg has a lot to offer international companies and investors. We are centrally located in Europe, have strong knowledge institutions, and are actively developing innovative campuses. We want to make these strengths known beyond our borders. Diplomats can play an important role in this.”
The visit concluded with a networking lunch with representatives from POM Limburg and Corda Campus. The Welcome Management team will follow up on the contacts afterwards.
