The city of Beringen celebrates the success of three local schools that participated in 'Operatie Proper', an initiative to sustainably tackle litter and promote waste prevention.
Beringen City proudly looks back on its first participation in Operatie Proper, an initiative by Mooimakers that encourages schools and youth associations to sustainably tackle litter. Three Beringen schools, De Berk Primary School, VBS Westakker, and BUSO VIBO Sint-Barbara, successfully completed all action points last school year. Together, the schools will receive a subsidy of 2,150 euros.
'Operatie Proper' is a system designed to motivate schools and youth associations to address litter. The city of Beringen aims to enhance public spaces, combat illegal dumping, and promote education on waste management and prevention. Participating schools develop a concrete action plan at the beginning of the school year, which is then executed by students and teachers throughout the year.

"It is fantastic to see the enthusiasm with which our schools have committed themselves to a cleaner Beringen. Through 'Operatie Proper', children learn not only the importance of cleaning up litter but, more importantly, how we can prevent waste together. The participating schools have shown that a sustainable approach truly works."
The reward provided by Mooimakers to the participating schools will be reinvested in further sustainability efforts. This includes investments in ecological toys for a new green playground and the refurbishment of a garden shed.

"They have more than earned this financial reward, and we hope their commitment will also inspire other schools and associations for the upcoming editions."
