The municipality of Alken and Tennis Club De Alk have jointly invested in the creation of four new outdoor pickleball courts in Alken Vallei. Until March 31, 2027, interested individuals can use the courts for free after reservation.

Pickleball has seen a significant surge in popularity in Flanders in recent years. The sport dynamically combines accessible elements from tennis, badminton, and table tennis. In response, the municipality and TC De Alk decided to sacrifice one gravel tennis court for four new pickleball courts. These courts feature fitting and functional colors that align with Alken Vallei and the municipality's branding.
To ensure a low-threshold introduction to this accessible sport, the municipality is making the courts available free of charge until March 31, 2027. Reservations can be made via www.tennisenpadelvlaanderen.be/nl/clubdashboard/reserveer-een-terrein?clubId=2212 or on-site via the information board with a QR code at TC De Alk. The pickleball courts can be used until 10 PM, with the club providing lighting if necessary.
Those without their own pickleball equipment can rent materials from Cafetaria De Alk or the dienst vrije tijd (during opening hours) for a fee of five euros for two paddles and a ball. TC De Alk will communicate further details about new pickleball memberships at the end of November.
