On Friday, October 9th, the local government welcomed about a hundred new residents at the De Wouwer community center. They were introduced to Ravels, partly through the new municipal film and a tasting of local delicacies. Three lucky individuals also got to take home a basket full of regional products.
The stories of the new residents show what brought them to the municipality and what makes them happy here. Often, it's the small things that make a new place feel like home, such as the peace, the greenery, and the friendliness of the people.
Several new residents found their way to Ravels from the Netherlands, seeking space, tranquility, or a suitable home. The green surroundings and the proximity to cities like Turnhout, Goirle, and Tilburg play a significant role in their choice.
The words that are most frequently heard from new residents are: peace, green, and space. The Ravels woods are often mentioned as a place you should definitely get to know, as are the open fields and nearby cycling routes.
Besides the environment, the friendliness of the residents also contributes to the feeling of home. Newcomers appreciate the personal contact in local shops and the spontaneous help from neighbors. Encounters like neighborhood barbecues strengthen the sense of community.
For some, like Fred Willems and Luc Adang, moving to Weelde was a return to familiar ground after nearly fifty years. They chose to buy and renovate the house next to Fred's parental home and are happy to live in their birth village again.
Getting to know a new place to live takes time, but new residents gradually find their way. The stories invite you to look at Ravels with fresh eyes and discover what makes the municipality so valuable.
The feeling of home grows through the daily enjoyment of the view, a familiar face in the shop, or an invitation for a cup of coffee. Ravels offers many ways to feel at home here, and sometimes the fresh perspective of a newcomer is needed to rediscover the beauty close to home.
