The municipality of Mol is reducing the maximum speed in Watertorenstraat to 30 km/h to improve traffic safety. The new limit will take effect once the signs are installed.

Watertorenstraat in Mol will soon have a new speed limit of 30 km/h. This measure, which applies to the entire street and its two dead-end branches, aims to improve traffic safety. The new limit will be implemented once the corresponding traffic signs are in place.
Residents had previously requested the street be converted into a 'woonerf' (residential area) with a 20 km/h speed limit. A petition signed by 15 out of 24 households highlighted concerns about traffic safety. However, the municipal government chose the 30 km/h limit because the street's current layout does not meet the criteria for a 'woonerf'. These criteria include a uniform ground level without height differences, sufficient traffic calming measures like narrowing or curves, a clear entrance, and designated parking spaces.
Speed measurements conducted in December 2024 showed that approximately 75% of registered vehicles were already driving at a maximum of 30 km/h. Given that the street is a dead end and has no through traffic function, the limit is being lowered from 50 to 30 km/h.
New traffic signs indicating the speed limit will be installed at the junction with Sint-Theresiastraat.
