This new series of measurements supplements data from earlier samplings in April, June, July, and September. The work is scheduled for late October, November, and December.
On October 30th, local drone flights are planned over D1, with a possibility to postpone to a later date due to weather conditions. In November, sampling and borings will be carried out at various times on and around S1 and D1. A team will also perform mechanical fieldwork using specialized equipment. In December, additional groundwater samples will be taken, and drill locations will be surveyed.
The team will wear protective clothing as a standard safety measure. These measurements are part of a defined action plan for the remediation of historically stored material containing radium. Umicore is conducting this research at the request of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC).
The measurements have no impact on the living environment and do not alter safety; the situation remains stable and under the supervision of the competent authorities. The goal is to gather sufficient and reliable information for the correct and safe remediation of the two historical storage sites.
