The new nature management plan, created at the request of the administrators, provides a sustainable framework for long-term ecological management. It outlines ambitions for nature development and the necessary management measures to foster healthy, stable, and climate-resilient forests. Bosgroep Vlaams-Brabant supports forest owners in sustainable management through advice and practical assistance.
From November 1st, the complete plan will be accessible online. Residents, locals, organizations, and other interested parties can submit comments, additions, or suggestions during the consultation period. Bosgroep Vlaams-Brabant will process these responses for the plan's further development.
The forest of the provincial domain primarily consists of old beech forests with wood anemones, bluebells, and wild daffodils. On the sandy ridge, there are coniferous stands with Douglas fir, larch, and Scots pine, supplemented by American oak, sweet chestnut, and beech. These historically planted forests contribute significantly to nature in Beersel today.
The management plan will focus on strengthening biodiversity, gradually transforming towards a more climate-resilient forest, and preserving the area's recreational and landscape value. The goal is a resilient forest better equipped to withstand extreme weather conditions while remaining attractive to visitors.
The nature management plan will be available until December 1st via the online portal of the Agency for Nature and Forest. A paper version will also be available for viewing at the entrance of the Huizingen Provincial Domain.
