On September 28, 2026, the municipality of Merksplas provisionally adopted two spatial implementation plans (RUPs): RUP Widar and RUP Fruitteelt, with a public inquiry period from October 19 to December 17, 2026.

The municipality of Merksplas is working on two key spatial implementation plans (RUPs): RUP Widar and RUP Fruitteelt. Both plans were provisionally adopted by the municipal council on September 28, 2026.
RUP Widar aims to create a clear spatial framework for the further development of vzw Widar. This recognized care facility, which combines living, care, and daytime activities for people with disabilities with agricultural activities, can, thanks to this new RUP, legally permit necessary adjustments and future expansions of its buildings in a clear manner.
RUP Fruitteelt addresses the specific needs of the fruit cultivation sector in Merksplas. The plan partially replaces the existing RUP Glastuinbouw (Greenhouse Horticulture) and aims to resolve ambiguities regarding specific horticultural activities in relation to the RUP Glastuinbouw area. In two sub-areas, at Ossenhout and Pampa, an adapted designation is provided for the preservation and development of these activities.
From October 19, 2026, to December 17, 2026, a public inquiry will be organized. During this period, residents can view the files and submit any comments or objections to the environment department at the town hall (Markt 1, 2330 Merksplas). Appointments can be made via www.merksplas.be/afspraak. The drafts are also available online.
Comments or objections can be submitted no later than December 17, 2026, via email to omgeving@merksplas.be (with the subject line ‘Openbaar onderzoek RUP Widar’ or ‘Openbaar onderzoek RUP Fruitteelt’, attention: GECORO), against receipt at the town hall, or by registered mail to the GECORO, Markt 1, 2330 Merksplas.
