On International Breast Cancer Day, Monday, October 19th, the Antwerp City Hall will glow pink to highlight the fight against breast cancer and promote early detection.

The city of Antwerp will illuminate its town hall in pink on Monday, October 19th, from 5 PM to midnight. This action is part of the international breast cancer month and aims to draw attention to International Breast Cancer Day. The World Health Organization globally emphasizes the importance of early detection and support for patients and research.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Flanders. As its causes remain unknown, early detection is crucial for recovery and avoiding invasive treatments. Prompt detection increases the chances of healing and reduces the risk of complications.
Mayor Els Van Doesburg stresses the importance of screening: “One in eight women receives a breast cancer diagnosis. The smaller the tumor and the earlier it's detected, the greater the chance of recovery. So, if you receive an invitation for a screening, accept it. So much suffering can be prevented, and that is ultimately our goal.”
The city also supports the mammobus from the University of Antwerp, a mobile breast screening center located at Sint-Jansplein in Antwerp from October 5th to 30th. Women aged 50 to 69 can undergo a free preventive breast screening there upon personal invitation for the Population Breast Cancer Screening.
