The city of Geel will begin expansion works at the Bel cemetery in November, aiming to create more space for greenery and enhance accessibility.

The expansion includes additional areas for full-ground burials, urn burials, and a columbarium. Wheelchair-accessible access paths and connecting paths made of concrete tiles will also be constructed. High-stem trees, a green buffer, and a 100 cm hedge will be planted around the site. Areas intended for later use will be sown with a flower mixture. The scattering meadow will feature a solitary tree, a memorial column, and a lawn path.
The works, expected to last about two weeks, will be organized outside the cemetery grounds to minimize disruption for visitors. The focus is on creating a calm and serene atmosphere, with additional benches to make the space more pleasant.
