At the Ringdag 2026, running until 5 PM today at the Crowne Plaza hotel on Gerard le Grellelaan, potential future visions for the southern Antwerp Ring and the area surrounding Antwerp-Berchem station are being presented. The final design for Ringpark Groene Vesten is also on display. The event provides an overview of the latest status of all Ring parks, the Oosterweel connection, and the Scheldt bridge, featuring a unique overview model of the entire Ring zone.
The development vision for the southern Ring is based on a simplified traffic system, enabled by the Oosterweel connection. This allows for a more compact design with fewer complex weaving movements and more space for new coverings and pedestrian/cycling bridges, reconnecting separated neighborhoods.
Antwerp-Berchem Station is being further developed into a future-proof mobility hub, ensuring smooth connections between train, tram, bus, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, while creating space for an attractive public environment and more green areas.
These visions are a follow-up to the Future Covenant established in 2017 by the Flemish Government, City of Antwerp, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, and the citizen movements stRaten-generaal, Ademloos, and Ringland. It serves as a compass for future investments.
The final design for Ringpark Groene Vesten, a 2.25-kilometer green belt between the E19 junction and Antwerp-Berchem station, aims to introduce greenery and space. Plans for sub-projects like Groenenhoek, Bruggenpark, Polygoonpark, and Leeuwerikpark are finalized; permit applications are due by the end of 2026, with construction potentially starting in late 2027.
Visitors can also find information on all Ring parks, the Scheldt bridge, and the Oosterweel connection. Information sessions are available on studies concerning the southern Ring and Berchem station. A visit to the Pomppark Zuid construction site and a view of the southern Ring from the 16th floor are also offered.
After the Ringdag, the Ring zone model and all plans will move to the information point of De Grote Verbinding, open every Wednesday and the first Sunday of the month from 10 AM to 4 PM.
Winners of the cycling quiz, launched with the opening of Ringpark West, will also be announced during the Ringdag. The grand prize, a hot air balloon ride, was won by Chris Van Remoortere from Beveren-Waas. A total of 109 answer forms were submitted.
