The municipality of Zwevegem has introduced new waste islands at its cemeteries to make waste sorting and recycling easier.

New waste islands are now available at Zwevegem's cemeteries in clearly visible locations. This allows waste generated during a visit to a grave to be easily sorted and correctly recycled.
The waste islands consist of four containers, each for a specific waste stream: blue for PMD (plastic flower pots, empty cleaning product bottles, plastic film, PET bottles, and other plastic packaging), black for residual waste (sponges, rags, plastic flowers, ribbons, floral foam), green for green waste (withered flowers, plants, leaves, weeds), and red for stone and ceramics (earthenware, ceramics and porcelain, glassware, pebbles, plaster or concrete).
The waste islands are exclusively intended for waste generated at the cemetery, for example, during grave maintenance. It is not permitted to leave household waste or other waste from home in these containers.
A clean municipality is one of the spearheads of this legislature. The municipality is working on a cleanliness plan, with special attention given to cemeteries.
