Residents of Zwevegem who have difficulty or are unable to move to the Gemeentepunt (Municipal Point) or Bibus can count on a new service from October 1, 2026. The Citizen Services department will come with a portable counter to their homes or to one of the Zwevegem residential care centers.
With this mobile counter, identity cards (eID) can be applied for or issued on-site. Taking passport photos, fingerprints, and registering signatures are also among the possibilities. Additionally, eID codes can be reactivated, and the address on the eID chip can be updated.
This service is specifically intended for residents who, for medical reasons, cannot move easily or at all, such as elderly people, persons with disabilities, or residents of a residential care center. A medical certificate is required to prove immobility.
An appointment for a home visit can be requested from the Citizen Services department by calling 056 76 55 30. During the phone call, it will be determined if a home visit is necessary and which documents need to be provided in advance.
For a home visit, in addition to the cost of the identity card, there is a 5 euro travel fee per visit. Payment must be made in advance.
Citizen Services employees never visit without an appointment. Each home visit is scheduled in advance, and residents will be informed of the expected arrival time. If you doubt the identity of someone claiming to be a Citizen Services employee, do not let them in and call 056 76 55 30 first.
This initiative brings services closer to residents for whom visiting the counter is not straightforward.
