Across Flanders, the Week of Childcare is celebrated from October 12 to 18, 2026. In Wervik, this week is also being used to thank childcare providers and staff for their daily dedication. This year's theme is ‘the magic of childcare’.
The campaign highlights the magical moments in childcare: a comforting hug, an engaging story that sparks imagination, an unexpected discovery during play, or a smile that brightens a difficult day. These small moments make a world of difference for children and families.
The true magic, according to the organizers, lies in the expertise, commitment, and big hearts of childcare providers. They intuitively understand children's needs, provide structure and safety, support parents, and create a warm environment daily for children to grow, learn, and discover themselves.
During this festive week, the City of Wervik is organizing special appreciation events for all childcare staff. Parents, children, and supporters are invited to show their gratitude through compliments, cards, or a simple thank you.
Specifically for the staff of the after-school childcare center Sloeber, a gift, a workshop, and a lunch are provided. A magician will visit all childcare locations.
The Local Childcare Consultation is organizing an inspiring workshop with a subsequent lunch for other childcare initiatives. Each initiative for babies and toddlers will also receive a gift as a token of appreciation.
Through social media, the magic of childcare will be highlighted under the hashtag #weekvandekinderopvang, showcasing local childcare providers alongside hundreds of other initiatives in Flanders.
