The city council of Waregem approved the purchase of the parking building at Waregem Expo on November 3rd. This acquisition makes the city the sole owner of the building and its 340 parking spaces.

This takeover will enable better streamlining of parking policies in and around the city center. One of the intentions is to equalize the rates for all covered parking lots. The parking building, in use since the autumn of 2024, was built as part of the development around the Elindus Arena and the Regenboogpark. The redevelopment and greening of the area led to a loss of parking space, which was compensated by this building.
The city was already a co-owner of the building, along with I-Land nv, Alheembouw nv, Captuur nv, and WAW-Construct nv. These co-owners have agreed to sell their shares to the city.
The purchase will simplify parking policy in the center. Starting next year, the city aims to implement the same, low parking rates at Het Pand parking, Zuiderpromenade parking, and the Waregem Expo parking building.
The city has allocated a budget of 2,835,000 euros (excluding VAT) for this acquisition. This amount will be included in an amendment to the multi-year financial plan, which will be presented to the city council in December.
