These repairs are necessary to maintain the bridge in good and safe condition. TUC RAIL will restore both the roadway and the bicycle path. On the roadway, structural cracks will be repaired, an additional crack-inhibiting layer applied, and the top layer replaced with new asphalt. The bicycle path will also receive new asphalt surfacing, ensuring a durable and comfortable surface.
The contractor will work lane by lane. The municipality urged TUC RAIL not to close the bridge completely. By keeping one lane open at all times, traffic remains possible, minimizing disruption for residents and road users. Two-way traffic with temporary traffic lights was deemed unsafe at this location due to potential conflicts with the nearby roundabout at the canal bridge and the connection to Stationsstraat towards the station.
During the works, one-way traffic will be in effect towards Moerbrugge. Motorized traffic from Oostkamp to Moerbrugge can use the bridge as usual. Motorized traffic from Moerbrugge to Oostkamp will be diverted via Steenbrugge. The traffic situation will be closely monitored and adjusted if necessary.
Pedestrians can cross the bridge in both directions. Cyclists traveling from Oostkamp to Moerbrugge will use the bridge and, if necessary, the bicycle path on the opposite side. Cyclists from Moerbrugge to Oostkamp will follow a diversion via the cycle tunnel under the railway in Gevaartsestraat. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bikes through the tunnel at the station.
Bus line 211 operated by De Lijn will not serve the Moerbrugge stop in either direction during the works. The bus will follow an adjusted route via Steenbruggebrug – Gaston Roelandtsstraat – Albrecht Rodenbachstraat – Gruuthuselaan. For travelers heading towards Bruges, De Lijn provides a replacement stop on Albrecht Rodenbachstraat, near the roundabout.
