“"The Food Bank has been an important partner for the municipality and OCMW Kuurne in the fight against poverty for many years. Through our social grocery store De Brug, this support directly reaches residents who need it. The food bank is a key supplier for De Brug. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly challenging for food banks to collect sufficient food supplies. Initiatives like Tim's are therefore particularly valuable. He not only raised funds but also positively highlighted the work of the Food Bank. With our donation of 1,000 euros, we as a local authority are happy to support this effort."

The municipality of Kuurne officially handed over a cheque for 1,000 euros to Food Bank West Flanders on Thursday, October 22, to support the fight against poverty.
The donation, officially presented at the town hall in the presence of Kuurne resident Tim Vlieghe and representatives from the Food Bank, is part of the long-standing collaboration between the municipality, the OCMW (Public Centre for Social Welfare), and the Food Bank. This support complements the commitment of resident Tim Vlieghe, who completed a double triathlon on August 22 and 23 for the organization. His initiative raised 14,250 euros, which was used to purchase 1,900 kg of coffee.
The collaboration with Food Bank West Flanders also has a concrete impact in Kuurne through the local social grocery store, De Brug. Individuals with limited budgets can obtain food there, freeing up more financial resources for other essential expenses such as housing.
However, the Food Bank faces new challenges due to changing consumption patterns and production processes, making it less certain that the organization can rely on the food supplies of the past. Donations and initiatives that raise awareness of the Food Bank's work are therefore gaining importance.
Thanks to numerous sponsors and contributions, Tim Vlieghe's initiative ultimately raised 14,250 euros, with which the food bank purchased 1,900 kg of coffee.
