The program begins at 9:30 AM in the Sint-Antonius Church in Heist with a solemn peace vigil. Young people and teachers from local schools will present contemporary peace poetry, accompanied musically by the For Freedom Pipes & Drums. Robin Lantsoght will perform peace songs by John Lennon, Bob Dylan, U2, Bill Withers, and Xavier Rudd.
From 10 AM to 11 AM, children can visit the Heldenplein. The Gezinsbond Knokke-Heist will provide an artistic interpretation of the 108th anniversary of the WWI Armistice in their craft tent, designing peace angels.
Following the peace vigil, a procession, led by the For Freedom Pipes & Drums, will proceed via Kerkstraat to the Heldenplein. There, the Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia Heist will musically welcome dignitaries around 11 AM with 'Te Velde'.
After the Armistice Day speech by Mayor Cathy Coudyser, a floral tribute will take place at the war memorial. Young people from local youth movements will plant 117 white roses in memory of the Knokke-Heist victims of both world wars. The Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Cecilia and the For Freedom Pipes & Drums will jointly perform 'Amazing Grace' and 'Highland Cathedral'. The ceremony will conclude with a salute from the ceremonial platoon of the Local Police, the playing of the Last Post, and the national anthems.
After the official part, the municipal government offers all attendees an animated open-air reception. Volunteers from Oxfam Wereldwinkel will offer tastings of fair beers, fruit juice, coffee, hot chocolate, rum, and limoncello. Musical guests are De Covrettes, supported by three brass players. This retro cover band performs swing hits in a typical fifties style.
