On Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 9 AM, a commemoration will take place in Knokke-Heist in honor of the Canadian liberators and all who contributed to freedom during World War II.

Traditionally, Canada's commemoration day begins with a solemn floral tribute at the Verzetsplein. Afterwards, a procession, led by the For Freedom Pipes & Drums, will proceed to the Heilig Hart Church on Dumortierlaan for an atmospheric commemoration mass. Through this event, Knokke-Heist pays tribute to the Canadian liberators and everyone who fought for our freedom. It is a moment for reflection, gratitude, and respect for the sacrifices made for the peace we enjoy today.
Due to ongoing works in and around the Sint-Margaretakerk, the commemoration mass will exceptionally be held at the Heilig Hart Church this year. The ceremony will be musically enhanced by the Jeugdorkest St. Cecilia uit Heist, Robin Lantsoght (vocals and guitar), Margot Philippe (vocals), and the For Freedom Pipes and Drums from Knokke-Heist. Everyone is welcome to join in this important moment of remembrance and gratitude.
At 11:15 AM, Canadian soldiers and the For Freedom Pipes & Drums will board buses for the floral tribute at the Canadian military cemetery in Adegem. The Children's Council of Knokke-Heist will recite a poem. A separate bus is provided for the public to attend this tribute. Participants will return to Dumortierlaan around 12:30 PM - 1 PM.
