On Saturday, October 10, 2026, the Day of Palliative Care, Netwerk Palliatieve Zorg Westhoek-Oostende is organizing the event Hoop in Beweging. Through a walking tour and running race, the organizers aim to raise awareness for palliative care and simultaneously collect funds to further support this care.
The event offers various distances for walkers and runners. The walking tour includes options of 5 km (start between 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM), 10 km (start between 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM), and 20 km (start between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM). The running race starts at 2:30 PM with distances of 3 km, 6 km, and 9 km. For the youngest participants, there is a Kidsrun at 2:00 PM with distances of 400 m or 800 meters.
The event takes place at Egellaan in Oostende. A special part of the walking tour is the first 5-kilometer loop, designed as a voluntary experiential walk with quiet stops in nature. This walk provides space for meeting, remembrance, connection, and rest, and is accessible for all ages. After these first 5 kilometers, walkers can choose to finish their tour or continue to the 10 or 20 kilometer distance.
In addition to the sporting aspect, there will be entertainment for the whole family, including musical entertainment, bouncy castles, face painting, and food trucks. 'Hoop in Beweging' aims to combine a sporting challenge with a warm meeting moment for everyone who supports palliative care. The initiative seeks to connect people and draw attention to the importance of quality palliative care.
Participation costs 15 EUR for adults and 7.50 EUR for children under 12 years old. The entire proceeds will go to Netwerk Palliatieve Zorg Westhoek-Oostende.
