The city of Bruges is preparing for the winter months with the planting of 20,000 plants and 30,000 bulbs to add extra color.

The planting will provide color in 22 seasonal flowerbeds and permanent planters, spread across the city and its sub-municipalities. Preparations began in early August in the municipal greenhouses at Buiten de Smedenpoort, where three employees are cultivating the plants.
The winter planting includes pansies, primroses, wallflowers, and tulips. Combining these with bulbs that have different flowering periods creates a varied display, offering a different color palette throughout the season.
Winter planting is intentionally limited to the seasonal flowerbeds and permanent planters. Other planting elements, such as flower pyramids, stork nests, and hanging baskets, will be prepared for summer planting starting in February.
Thanks to timely cultivation and careful preparation by the staff of the municipal greenhouses, Bruges retains its color even during the winter months.
