Tenants and owners who heat with gas or heating oil are legally required to have their central heating system regularly maintained. As an additional incentive for low-income individuals, the Flemish government offers a premium that can be applied for at the Energiehuis. Those who had their heating boiler serviced in 2025 or 2026 should now apply for the premium.
A heating oil boiler requires annual maintenance, while a natural gas boiler needs it every two years. Properly maintained and adjusted boilers operate better, consume less fuel, ensure safe operation, and prevent costly repairs, extending the boiler's lifespan.
The premium is available for households with a (family) income below 29,830 euros for single individuals, 44,740 euros for single individuals with a disability or one dependent, or couples without dependents. An additional 4,420 euros is added for each extra dependent.
Maintenance must be carried out by a certified technician. After the service, you will receive a cleaning and combustion certificate and an invoice. The premium can be applied for at the housing and energy counter in the administrative center, providing the invoice (from 2025 or 2026, with your name and address) and the cleaning and combustion certificate. An identity card, the itsme app, or online application are also accepted.
The premium equals the cost of the maintenance, with a maximum of 192 euros for maintenance performed in 2026 (max. 188 euros for 2025).
ATTENTION! The Flemish Government has announced that the Mijn VerbouwBegeleiding and the associated premium for heating boiler maintenance will be discontinued from January 1, 2027. Applications for maintenance performed in 2025 can be submitted until November 15, 2026, and for maintenance performed in 2026 until the end of December 2026.
