The municipality of Beernem is organizing information sessions on October 6, 12, and 13 regarding the switch to a new bin-based waste system, effective March 1, 2027.

Do you have questions about the new waste system in Beernem? The municipality is organizing information sessions on October 6, 12, and 13 at O.C. De Kleine Beer. You can ask all your questions, discover the different container sizes, and make your choice. Pre-registration is possible via www.ivbo.be/vanzaknaarbak or by calling 0800 21 901.
If an information market in another municipality suits you better, that is also an option. Dates, times, and locations can be found at www.ivbo.be/vanzaknaarbak. The different container sizes can also be viewed at the town hall during opening hours.
Starting March 1, 2027, Beernem will switch to the DifTar waste plan. This system means residents pay based on the amount of residual and organic waste (GFT) they present. Those who sort well and produce less residual waste will pay less. This aims to reduce residual waste production from 126 kg per inhabitant to 90 kg by 2030, as mandated by OVAM.
The current yellow residual waste bags, green GFT bags, and paper garden waste bags will be permanently discontinued. From March 1, 2027, a residual waste container (black lid) and a GFT container (green lid) will be used. Organic waste (GFT) and food scraps can now be placed together in the GFT container. A residual waste container is mandatory, while a GFT container is not. The bin system also resolves the issue of torn bags.
You will pay a monthly usage fee for the containers and a fee per collection, based on weight. GFT is cheaper than residual waste. The tariffs will be detailed in a letter you will receive at the end of September. Owners of second homes, businesses, and associations will also receive a letter, but a container is not mandatory for them.
Tips: use up your current waste bags, share them with neighbors, and from September, purchase loose residual waste bags at the town hall or social services. In March and April 2027, you can still exchange full rolls for credit on your waste account.
