From October 26, 2026, residents of Avelgem can visit the library outside regular opening hours thanks to the new OpenBIB system.

OpenBIB allows registered users to visit the library independently during unstaffed hours. This initiative, officially launching on Monday, October 26, 2026, complements existing staffed hours, offering greater flexibility for borrowing, returning, collecting reservations, reading, studying, and using computers, copiers, and printers.
Access to the library during unstaffed hours is controlled, with existing library usage rules remaining in effect. More detailed information on how OpenBIB works, its terms of use, and registration is available on the dedicated OpenBIB page.
The municipality of Avelgem will celebrate the launch of OpenBIB with a festive opening on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 7 PM. During this event, the library's key will be symbolically handed over to residents, highlighting the library's increased accessibility and flexibility. Registration for this opening event is required by October 25, 2026, via communicatie@avelgem.be.
