The attending couples, who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2026, enjoyed a delicious dinner and a pleasant dance party. The municipality announced that couples celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2027 will automatically receive an invitation.
Sonja and Yvan, who ran the fish shop/restaurant/banquet hall Géanty in Westende until 2015, shared their enthusiasm. "You have to enjoy life. When you've worked your whole life, you really appreciate this period and must continue to benefit from it. This is truly a very pleasant evening. We are happy to be here," said Sonja. Annie and Ludo from Lombardsijde also appreciated the gesture from the municipality: "It was a delicious dinner and we could take a nice photo at the photobooth. A lovely souvenir!"
Couples celebrating their 50th anniversary next year will receive an invitation in the autumn. They only need to confirm and, if they wish, send in their wedding photo.
Middelkerke also celebrates other milestones, such as 60, 65, or 70 years of marriage, and centenarians. The reception service provides a non-binding questionnaire for these occasions. If completed, it may lead to a visit from the mayor and aldermen college and a press release based on the questionnaire. Jubilarians also receive a Middelbon to spend at local Middelkerke traders.
