On October 1st, over 1.6 million messages were sent via SMS, email, and voice messages during a large-scale test of the BE-Alert emergency warning system, distributed across 247 cities, municipalities, and provinces.

During the test day, 4,611 test messages were sent via SMS and 4,469 via email. Overall, the test proceeded very smoothly.
Citizens who also wish to be warned in case of emergencies such as a major fire or gas leak can register via the BE-Alert website. One can opt to receive information via SMS, email, or phone, and register multiple addresses, for example, for the area around their workplace or that of a family member.
With the new brochure Samen voorbereid (Together Prepared), the National Crisis Centre aims to help citizens adopt the correct reflexes before, during, and after an emergency situation.
