The city of Tienen, a long-standing 'Dementia-Friendly municipality', introduces a new walk connecting people with dementia, their caregivers, and buddies at unique city locations.

Since 2023, Tienen has been actively committed to supporting people with dementia, an initiative strengthened last year with various partners. The city aims to foster an environment where individuals with dementia and their caregivers feel welcome and at home.
The newly designed dementia-friendly walk guides participants through several notable spots in the city center, including Mozartplein, Torekesplein, the church garden, and the Apostelenhof. The experience emphasizes shared sensory engagement and reminiscence, prioritizing the enjoyment of the present moment.

"Dementia should not be a reason to participate less in life in our city. With this walk, we offer people with dementia and those around them an accessible way to go out together and enjoy what Tienen has to offer. We highly value inclusion. In Tienen, everyone belongs."

Wim Bergé · Alderman for Social Policy
The walk, starting at a base length of 1 kilometer with options to extend, can be undertaken independently using a brochure or with a guide. The brochure is available free of charge at the Tourist Information Point located at Grote Markt 6 in Tienen, and can also be downloaded online.
