This adjustment is part of an initiative to increase recycling and decrease the amount of waste. Analyses of residual waste have shown that too many recyclable materials, such as organic waste (gft), packaging (pmd), and textiles, are still being sorted incorrectly. By sorting better, residents will automatically have less residual waste.
The new regulation also brings environmental benefits. Fewer collections mean fewer garbage trucks on the road, resulting in less traffic disruption, noise pollution, and lower CO₂ emissions.
For many families, the impact will be limited, as they already do not put out their residual waste bin for every collection or do not fill it completely. Those who require more capacity can request a larger residual waste bin via the e-loket (online service portal) or by calling the free number 0800 97 0 97. Additionally, residual waste can be brought to the recycling center in bags of up to 30 liters for a fee of 0.40 euros per kilogram. Two communal residual waste containers will be available in Tielt-Winge, accessible 24/7 with an eID, costing 2 euros per bag. More practical information on this will follow.
Sorting correctly is not only better for the environment but also for your wallet, as residual waste is the most expensive waste stream. The municipality emphasizes the importance of correct sorting for organic waste (gft) (peels, food scraps, garden waste), packaging (pmd) (plastic packaging, metal packaging, drink cartons), textiles (clean and dry textiles, sheets, towels, shoes), and hazardous household waste (KGA) (batteries, paint, pesticides). When in doubt, residents can consult the sorting guide from EcoWerf.
The new waste calendar with collection days will be distributed, and all residents will receive a letter with detailed information. For questions regarding the new arrangement, citizens can contact EcoWerf.
