Oud-Heverlee can once again call itself a pet-friendly municipality, having retained the label from the province of Flemish Brabant. This label recognizes local authorities actively committed to animal welfare.

To obtain and maintain the label, a municipality must commit to fulfilling 14 pet-friendly action points. These include appointing a councilor responsible for animal welfare, implementing a policy for stray cat sterilization, and prohibiting circuses with wild animals.
Oud-Heverlee also takes animal welfare into account as much as possible in its daily operations. The province annually evaluates whether municipalities continue to meet the conditions. Thanks to its ongoing efforts, Oud-Heverlee will carry the label again this year.
The municipality continues to work towards an environment where both people and animals feel at home.
