The KMI has issued a yellow code for storm weather for Friday, October 23rd, with strong gusts and potential damage expected in Kampenhout and surrounding areas.

The KMI has issued a yellow code for storm weather for Friday, October 23rd. Locally, strong gusts are possible, so it is advised to avoid parks and forests. The risk of damage also exists in our municipality. Proper preparation is essential.
As this is the first storm of the autumn, it is recommended to be extra careful in forests or parks. Most trees still have leaves, and due to the heat of the past summer, there are many dead branches that could suddenly fall. The risk of damage at these wind speeds is greater than normal.
What can you do? Do not go outside unless necessary. The expected gusts could cause you to lose your balance and fall painfully. Furthermore, you risk coming into contact with 'flying objects' such as traffic signs, trash bins, or branches. Therefore, stay indoors during the storm. Avoid parks, forests, nature reserves, and other places with many trees. Bring your furniture, trash bins, umbrellas, or tools from your garden or balcony inside or secure them well. Pay sufficient attention to the trampoline in your garden, as it can literally fly away and cause damage to your property or your neighbors'. Also, check if any roof tiles are loose. Ensure that free-roaming pets have safe shelter and let dogs and cats sleep inside for once. If you must travel by car, adjust your driving behavior: drive slower and keep more distance. Check the sewer grates and clear them so water can drain if it rains heavily. Be mindful of where you park your car, at home or elsewhere. Do not park under trees, as falling branches can crack your windshield. Finally, and importantly, think of your neighbors! Lend a hand where needed to secure loose items. Keep an eye on your neighbors, especially those who are on holiday. A good neighbor is better than a distant friend.
Do you need help? If it concerns an intervention where no one is in mortal danger? Submit your request to the fire department: preferably via the digital counter www.1722.be; or call the emergency number 1722, which has now been activated. Only call the emergency number 112 if people are in mortal danger. This helps keep the line free for urgent interventions!
Have you suffered damage? Make an inventory of the damage: describe the damage in as much detail as possible; take photos of the damage as evidence. Take measures yourself to prevent further damage. Be sure to keep receipts for expenses incurred. It is best to incur other non-urgent expenses only after approval from your insurance. Inform your insurance company. Request the following certificates: a certificate of intervention if your insurance covers the damage; a certificate of non-intervention if your insurance does not cover the damage. Make a copy of your insurance certificate.
